Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)

Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is a fairly common condition found in very small babies – those born prematurly.  The condition has had different names in the past, but since 1984 has been described and classified according to an international system, described in the International Classification of Retinopathy of Prematurity.

The system helps opthamalogists to identify the condition, track it’s progress, and recognize when intervention is needed.  In the hands of a properly skilled and trained physician, ROP is virtually always successfully treated.Retinopathy of Prematurity ROP

Unfortunately, not all physicians have the skills necessary, or fail to follow international guidelines.  Or, worse yet, some babies are simply not examined in the appropriate window of time for treatment.  As a result, hundreds of children are blinded each year by medical negligence.

At the law firm of Miller, Curtis and Weisbrod, we understand the devastation that can be caused by this negligence.  We have and continue to represent many families who have suffered through the unnecessary tragedy of a child blinded by medical negligence.  We recognize the unique problems a child faces when sight is taken.  We also know about the future limitations that child will encounter – from special accomidations needed in classrooms, to household modifications to future job prospects.

Our proven results information is below.   If you fear your child was a victim of medical negligence in the care of ROP, please give us a call or an email.  We may be able to help secure your childs care needs – both in the past and for the rest of your child’s life.  We offer a free evaluation of your case, and we charge a fee only if we are successful in making a recovery for you and your child.
